My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A well written historical crime thriller with perfect pacing...

The Dead Crawl Home (The Jack Ryder Mysteries Book 2) by Lawrence J. Epstein is a wonderfully written and richly descriptive novel with brilliantly drawn characters and settings. The threads of storytelling are expertly woven in this historical crime thriller that will guarantee the attention of the reader. Set in mid-1940s New York City, private detective Jack Ryder must figure out how a murder and a suicide are connected to a menace by Nazi spies.

I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of the story in my head to see if I could figure more out. It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a well written historical crime thriller with perfect pacing.

Definitely worth reading the first book in the series, but the author writes in such a way that any of the books could be a standalone. It was a mesmerizing read that had me engaged from the beginning. The story flowed from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling. There are plenty of suspenseful and intriguing moments in this page-turner that will take the reader on a thrilling journey. Highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me.

Zipacna's Legacy is more than a fantasy. It is exploring what could be if we only learn how to relax and be open to the possibilities of this world rather than narrowly relying solely on logic, science and hard work that limit our imaginations. Imagination is what leads to creativity, invention and ultimately the progress of both human civilization and the soul. I doubt anyone who reads this beautiful book will be likely to forget the possibilities it opens. Highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me.

A must-read book for becoming a good leader...

Some people have a seemingly natural charisma that makes them very persuasive. While the power to motivate and persuade is a tremendous asset to those who would lead, it isn't the sum total of leadership. Even if you are not a natural born leader, you can certainly evolve into one. However, you must be proactive in developing your leadership skills. Many leaders are made, not born.

7 Principles of Becoming a Leader by Riku Vuorenmaa is a definitive guide for starting and building your management career. The author focuses on ‘a comprehensive approach on leading, writing about and coaching often forgotten aspects of leadership work and career, such as deeper personal development, and career management for leaders.’

The authors infectious enthusiasm, keen insight, remarkable interpersonal skills and engaging style will no doubt help countless people "flip the switch" to a life of greater clarity, meaning and success by showing them how to be better leaders. Highly recommended.

Serenity Boat by Sarit Brik is a wonderfully written and richly descriptive novel with brilliantly drawn characters driven by love, loss and tragedy. The author weaves a well-crafted romantic drama written around the personal tragedy she lived through with the suicide of her father. It’s an all-encompassing human dramatization that will captivate the reader from the first page to the last.

I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. From Adam's Apple to Newton's Apple: Concepts in Kabbala and the Wisdom of Hassidut through the Lens of Modern PhysicsFrom Adam's Apple to Newton's Apple: Concepts in Kabbala and the Wisdom of Hassidut through the Lens of Modern Physics by Shemer Keydar PhD
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Exploring concepts in Kabbalah and the wisdom of Hassidut via the lens of modern physics...

Quantum theory is science's most significant, thrilling, demanding and even mystifying domains. It is considerably more than just strange. It is, without reservation, the most awe-inspiring hypothesis in the world today. The supposition is telling us that we may well be deeply incorrect in our reasoning concerning what reality truly is. Quantum theory gradually evolved into a very successful scientific tool capable of achieving precise measurements, while at the same time presenting us with conceptual conundrums.

Israeli author Keydar Shemer explores concepts in Kabbalah and the wisdom of Hassidut via the lens of modern physics in his fascinating book, From Adam's Apple to Newton's Apple. His credentials for writing on such topics leaves no doubt as he ‘graduated from Tel Aviv University and from Bar Ilan University with a B.Sc. in physics and graduated from Tel-Aviv University with an M.Sc. in Geophysics. He earned his doctorate in geophysics at Tel Aviv University. Since 1984, he has worked for the Geophysical Institute of Israel as a senior researcher. He has written around 100 publications in professional journals and at international conferences. Over the last two decades he has developed a keen interest in the relationship between Judaism and modern physics.’

Anything that pricks up my ears and gets my tail wagging always makes for an interesting read. Admittedly, I was at a disadvantage reading this book, perhaps to the extent of not understanding key points. Nevertheless, it was a fascinating and thought-provoking book that’s sure to pique the interest of many. Highly recommended reading and a well-deserved five stars from me. With conflict that’s genuinely gray and protagonists taking questionable actions with a black-and-white conflict dressed up to be gray, the protagonists can be questionably right, and the storyteller just presents the story as though it has a nuanced conflict with moral dilemmas.

If you are looking for something different in the dystopian genre, this would be an interesting read. Highly recommended and a well-deserved fives stars for the authors sheer flight of the imagination!

‘The biggest barriers people have are the ones they put on themselves.’

As the author states in his introduction his sole purpose in writing this book is to inspire people to continue to plug away and to make their lives better. He would also like to leave the world a better place than when he came into it. He would like people to understand they can endure almost anything that life throws at them.

‘Life is a wonderful combination of difficult experiences that are paradoxically intertwined with experiences of happiness in our lives. The difficult experiences are usually surprising, and we will never be ready for them. However, they make us resilient and make us appreciate what is there. Therefore, even with difficulty, one must not forget to be grateful. Because showing gratitude is a source of power that connects great faith and hope.’

I AM A Miracle by Clyde Hoch is a powerful and inspirational story about a man’s triumph over poverty and adversary. It was a brilliant read that will leave you feeling like a better person for having read it. It’s an impressive work by the founder of a nonprofit organization called Veterans Brotherhood, an international award-winning author, and a highly-decorated United States Marine Corps Veteran who heroically served in Vietnam as a tank commander.

Well worth a read...

The Future of Finance is Now: The Most Important Trends in Finance for the Coming Decade Have Already Started by Jason Schenker is a good introduction for the lay-person on understanding the world of finance.

As the author states, ‘finance professionals are always trying to look around the corner because being able to see just a little bit ahead is where the money is made. It’s the reason that financial technology — FinTech — has been a hot topic for years. And it is the reason why the future of finance is such a hotly discussed subject…’

The world, of course, has changed dramatically since the publication of this book. However, it still remains very much relevant and contains valuable information. The author lays out a clear outline on how an individual can still thrive financially in today’s world. Well worth a read.

It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a first-class comedy horror with perfect pacing.

The contrast between tone and content is a characteristic talent of only a few authors. Anderson pays as much attention to his sentences as he does to his plots, shifting or merging meaning with the use of a single word. His writing is impeccably honed, full of juxtapositions and qualifications that help to create a darkly humorous atmosphere that will leave you laughing out loud.

Highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me.

There’s no doubt that Some Laneys Died: A Skipping Sideways Thriller by Brooke Skipstone is an exceptionally well written book. However, it must be said that this story is not for the faint-hearted. The author’s script at times is razor-sharp and will cut deep into the emotions of its reader. The book deals with some very serious issues. As the author states, ‘This book contains scenes of violence, sexual situations, and suicide.’ However, it also contains ‘scenes of love, resilience, joy, hope, and redemption.’ Highly recommended.
