Objections, Misdemeanors, and Speeding Seniors: Stories From the Traffic Judge’s CourtroomObjections, Misdemeanors, and Speeding Seniors: Stories From the Traffic Judge’s Courtroom by Abraham N. Tennenbaum
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

You can’t make this stuff up!

Introduced by none other than Caught in Providence's very own Judge Frank Caprio, Judge Abraham Tennenbaum, now retired after nearly twenty years of service as the presiding judge of Jerusalem's traffic court, provides an illuminating picture of the worldwide TV phenomenon that is the traffic court.

“Objections, Misdemeanors, and Speeding Seniors: Stories from the Traffic Judge’s Courtroom” was very entertaining, interesting, and informative but above all, compassionate. In a nutshell, you really couldn’t make this stuff up. And I use the word ‘nutshell’ loosely in this must-read!

If you're one of the lucky few who has ever wondered what goes on inside a traffic court, here's your chance to see it through the eyes of the judge. Compelling and mesmeric reading that comes highly recommended. A well-deserved five stars from me. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Essential reading for parents of kids and teens...

Dr. Shulamith Arzy is a senior rehabilitative and educational psychologist. She has worked in a variety of settings, including the public sector, psychiatric institutions, the ministry of defense, and educational psychological institutes. Additionally, she held a teaching position at Ariel University. Today, Dr. Arzy is the owner and operator of a private clinic that specializes in the psychological treatment of children, adolescents, and families. In addition to cognitive behavioral therapy, the facility makes use of innovative and engaging approaches. Dr. Arzy is also an experienced painter, and she uses painting and art as another therapeutic instrument.

Dr. Arzy’s “Recipe for the Soul” provides parents with the essential tools they need to understand their child's behavior and the reasons behind it. The book focuses on the mental and emotional causes behind each diagnosis, and it concludes with a "recipe" that can be used by the parents. Dr. Arzy draws from her four decades of clinical experience to illustrate how to confront these issues, how to facilitate the healing process on your own, and how to identify when you need the assistance of an expert - all without giving up your own parental agency.

With the help of this essential parenting guide, you will learn how to recognize, comprehend, and support your child through their challenges, difficulties, tantrums, and breakdowns. This will allow you to foster your child's growth by creating a supportive environment for them to thrive in, thereby contributing to their healthy development. How to build the right, empowering atmosphere for your child to develop by combining your own parenting ideals with the professional ideas and therapeutic treatments used by professionals in the field. The typical mistakes that every parent commits or misses, along with advice on how to remedy or prevent making them. And how to do so in a way that is uncomplicated, imaginative, and engaging for both you and your child in order to foster self-reliance. The ‘sanity-saving’ and sound counsel provided by Dr. Arzy, which is accompanied by fascinating case studies and vibrant illustrations created by the author herself, constitutes an indispensable resource for parents of children and young adults of all ages.

Very highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Danger in the Rain: A Ted Danger Mystery

Danger in the Rain: A Ted Danger MysteryDanger in the Rain: A Ted Danger Mystery by Douglas Boatman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Absurdly entertaining!

In absurdist fiction, characters must find meaning in meaningless situations. The phrase 'absurd' may conjure comedy, but it's not always funny. It ranges from absurd to sublime, from joyful comedy to gut-wrenching tragedy, utilizing a wide range of moods and situations in which the lack of answers and purposes looms over us like a predatory bird. Danger in the Rain: A Ted Danger Mystery by Douglas Boatman is a book that inspires absurdity right from the moment you start reading it! It’s an off-beat comedy mystery that had me absurdly entertained from start to finish. Highly recommended.

A SEASON NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN

A SEASON NEVER TO BE FORGOTTENA SEASON NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN by Roland Colton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A mix of fantasy, baseball, and a whole lot of sporting action!

“A Season Never To Be Forgotten” is Roland Colton’s final installment of the “Baseball Immortal Trilogy.” The synopsis opens with an intriguing premise: ‘Is the man who wakes up in a Georgia hospital, after suffering a near fatal hit-and-run accident, truly the legendary Ty Cobb (who has been inexplicably transported forward in time), or is he a man suffering from severe psychosis and delusions of grandeur, who has hijacked Cobb's identity as his own?’

In summarizing the plot we find Cobb in the hands of the police facing serious time behind bars for assault and battery. While this is going on, Cobb is on the verge of equaling and possibly even surpassing one of the most revered records in all of sports, and his team is still fighting for a position in the playoffs. The revelation of long-lost secrets provides answers to lingering questions about Cobb's history and casts doubt on both his and his team's prospects for the future. Cobb finds himself in the agonizing position of having to decide whether or not he is willing to compromise his honor and integrity in order to save the person who is most important to him. Cobb's psychological warfare continues to stir resentment and hatred from fans, opponents, and even his own teammates. With Cobb on the field, anything can and will happen…

A deliberately paced yet progressively absorbing drama, “A Season Never To Be Forgotten” is an instant baseball classic. Highly recommended.

The Manager's Playbook: Make Exceptional People Management Your Competitive Advantage

The Manager's Playbook: Make Exceptional People Management Your Competitive AdvantageThe Manager's Playbook: Make Exceptional People Management Your Competitive Advantage by Joel Trammell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A fresh look at what it means to be a great boss...

Being an effective leader necessitates having strong managerial skills. Trust is more important than charm when it comes to outstanding leadership, despite the fact that this may not appear to be the case in most large companies. In today's world, it is all too common for leaders to be selected not on the basis of their competence, vision, or ability to motivate a team, but rather on the basis of their star appeal and alpha inclinations. There are a lot of charismatic people in top positions, but most of them aren't very good leaders. This is something that far too many of us have noticed. They may have good improvisational skills, but they are severely lacking in both judgment and competence. They may be resolute, but they are blind to both the big picture and the details. A genuine leader brings out the best in others and leads by setting an example for others to follow. This book takes a fresh look at what it means to be a great boss and how great bosses help everyone win. It is an approach that is both enlightening and motivating. Highly recommended.

Forsaken

ForsakenForsaken by Gina Detwiler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A well-crafted Christian-themed fantasy...

Gina Detwiler is the author of the YA Supernatural series FORLORN and is co-author with Priscilla Shirer of the bestselling middle-grade fantasy series, THE PRINCE WARRIORS. Her non-fiction books include The Ultimate Bible Character Guide and The Ultimate Bible Character Devotional. She's written novels for adults, including HAMMER OF GOD and AVALON, under the name Gina Miani.

Gina Detwiler’s FORSAKEN is Book 2 in the FORLORN series. It’s an excellent Christian fantasy that will grab readers and hurl them far beyond the boundaries of our limited world. This YA fantasy has intriguing twists and turns that will easily captivate the reader from the first page to the last. Although the book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. However, I would highly recommend starting with book 1 in the series FORLORN.

In summarizing the synopsis, we find that Grace Fortune watched her boyfriend, Jared Lorn, die nine months ago. Grace doubts Jared's death. She and her friends investigate Silo City, an abandoned silo complex with dark secrets and abandoned people… Jared is alive and working with the enemy, Blood Moon frontman Lester Crow, to save the girl he loves. Jared's "deal with the devil" will take him cross-country into darkness. Jared must use Blood Moon's music to fight while defending his mind and soul… Jared and Grace desperately want to be reunited, but first, they must overcome the demonic powers, and pray for God-forsaken Nephilim Jared's future…

If you are looking for a well-written and exceptional fantasy book with unforgettable characters and a gripping plot, Gina Detwiler’s FORSAKEN will not disappoint you. It’s a Y/A fantasy that maintains a compelling hold from start to finish. Highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me.

Inheriting Silence - A Holocaust Memoir

Inheriting Silence - A Holocaust MemoirInheriting Silence - A Holocaust Memoir by Zahava Kornberg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An emotional, and utterly compelling read...

The Holocaust is always a difficult subject to read about, especially in a way that is meaningful beyond the subjects' inherent weight, insomuch that it doesn't rely solely on the tragic nature of the Holocaust to bring it resonance. “Inheriting Silence” by Zahava Kornberg manages to bring a fascinating story, in its own merits, and interweaves it with skill.

The story revolves around Zahava, born in a German displaced person camp (DP camp) after World War II. She had very little knowledge of her parents' lives before she was born, including her father's upbringing in Chortkiv, Poland. Her father had left her with a lot of unanswered questions after he died… Then, as her phone rang one day, a seemingly innocuous question at first turns out to be the catalyst for a significant turning point in her life. Years after her father's death, Zahava sets out on a journey to retrace his pre-Holocaust diaries and finds out more about her father's past than she ever imagined possible; enough to change the way she thinks about his life, the war, and the relationship he had with his family, both the one he started with her mother and the one he left behind…

It's impossible to read this utterly compelling memoir and not absorb the powerful drama and emotion that unfolds within its pages. Very highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Playing Dirty: Operation Trouser Snake

Playing Dirty: Operation Trouser SnakePlaying Dirty: Operation Trouser Snake by Andrew R. Williams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A political thriller not afraid of politics...

In summarizing the synopsis, we find the main protagonist, Michael Ventiquatro, the flamboyant leader of the S & B Progressive Party, who wants to take over the UK Parliament. He is affluent and funded by his own multinational company Slash & Byrne Enterprises. Power-hungry, he distributes the Superdrug Ambronootrop which was banned in the US due to its negative side effects. He persuades his followers to take the drug and support the political party to achieve ‘fulfillment.’ Party followers who become ‘Superiors’ are fulfilled - as opposed to being just Homo Sapiens…

With the Media and police avoiding conflict, party thugs terrorize the UK. One of Ventiquatro’s top lieutenants is ordered to plan a series of covert strikes on democracy itself to win the next general election. Along with a nerve gas attack killing numerous members of parliament, "honey traps" set to damage surviving MPs and blackmail to undermine what’s left of his challengers… Who will prevail in the end?

Taut, gripping, and intelligent, Playing Dirty works very well as intended - a political thriller. Looking at the premise and plot, the story moved well. The book is very effective at both a macro and micro level; the national politics and personal emotional drama carry the same amount of narrative weight. The book works best at pulling the reader along for the ride and spinning a yarn so involving that it makes you want to read it from start to finish in one sitting.

Highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me.

Lost in Time by John Taylor

Lost in TimeLost in Time by John M. Taylor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A well-crafted historical fantasy mystery thriller...

After a successful business career that took him all over the world, English-born author John Taylor, now calls Perth, Australia home. His early writing career consisted of writing technical and training manuals, but he eventually found that more creative writing gave him greater satisfaction. He was also a frequent guest on the radio and wrote a column for a local newspaper every week. His first book, "Raising Fen Tigers," takes a humorous look at his experience growing up in a Fenland village. His first novel, "I Will Find You," of which I had the pleasure of reading and reviewing, is being adapted for the Silver Screen! "Lost in Time," is his latest novel.

"Lost in Time," is a superbly written and richly descriptive novel with brilliantly drawn characters and settings. The threads of storytelling are so expertly woven in this historical mystery thriller that it guarantees the attention of the reader. Skillfully constructed and set against the backdrop of the Fenlands, in eastern England at the beginning of the Great War, this mystery thriller will have you turning the pages from beginning to end.

In summarizing the synopsis we find the main protagonist, Tom, a well-known horseman working Clydesdales horses on a farm near Ely, in the Fens of East Anglia at the beginning of World War I. During the process of draining the marshes to uncover rich farmland, relics from the area's long-ago history began to surface. From the edge of Tom's plow emerges a curious vessel from the middle ages. Not long after the discovery, children start going missing, and the villagers quickly become fearful. What is the relationship between the missing children, the Knights Templar, and the treasure that was lost during the reign of King John? This unconventional, and at times humorous, suspenseful thriller takes place in a Fenland town in the early 1900s and recounts an unanticipated chain of events…

"Lost in Time" had every element a good story should have. An interesting plot, with attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. There’s an abundance of well-illustrated scenes that make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that’s something I look for in a good book. It’s one of those stories that come along once in a while that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I’m giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader.

Highly recommended and a well-deserved five stars from me. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
