Keeping the tradition alive, but performing it in a more straightforward manner...

It is difficult to present a Seder in a condensed manner while maintaining everyone in the family's interest in what is happening. The Swift Seder: The Concise Passover Haggadah for a Reverent Yet Efficient Seder in Under 30 Minutes by Made Easy Press takes great care to keep the prayers brief, yet compelling. All of the essential components are addressed before the Seder concludes for the celebratory meal. The layout and graphics are excellent, and the story of the Passover holiday is presented in a way that even those who are not Jewish can understand and appreciate. Highly recommended. A fast-paced, action-packed ride!

“Bad Roads” by John M. Vermillion is a thrilling page-turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Written by a maestro of the genre, this heist thriller is packed with action, suspense, and intrigue.

The story revolves around Jock Holden, the manager of a Minor League baseball team who is currently suspended but working as a hireling during his time away from the team. His job is to tear down three hunting cabins in the mountains that are over forty years old. He finds leather bags buried in the ground hidden under the support posts. The value of the bounty in today's dollars ranges from one million to several million. Holden believes he has successfully completed the heist and is walking away with the bags, but he was being followed from the very beginning. Holden acts violently toward this person in response to her threat to reveal the truth. He should be tried for both first-degree burglary and first-degree murder now. A former player who is now employed by the police contacts Holden in order to gather evidence against him. Instead, the player joins forces with Holden in this conflict. The two thugs start to squat on the 20,000-acre ranch owned by Felix Fox. The manhunt reaches its most intense point of violence as the fugitives struggle against the elements and the authorities simultaneously…

What sets this book apart from other heist thrillers is the depth of the characters. Each member of the team has their own backstory and motivations, which adds a layer of complexity and depth to the story. The author also does an excellent job of keeping the reader guessing until the very end, with several unexpected twists and turns that will leave you gasping in surprise.

The pacing of the book is perfect, with just the right amount of action and suspense to keep you hooked. The writing is crisp and engaging, making it easy to visualize the scenes as they unfold.

FETCH ME A HANGMAN

FETCH ME A HANGMANFETCH ME A HANGMAN by R.G. Ashcroft
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A well-crafted atmospheric thriller...

R. G. Ashcroft’s FETCH ME A HANGMAN tells the story of Brandeis Fields, a country lawyer who tries to keep a low profile so he can devote more time to his family. Honest and unassuming best describe him. However, after the daughter of the mayor is found dead from apparent strangulation, the mayor asks Brandeis to defend the suspect. He would rather not work on such a high-profile murder case, but circumstances have forced his hand. Now Brandeis is defending a client he doesn't like in a case he doesn't want to take, and he's not sure if it matters to him whether or not the defendant is guilty. What will happen to Brandeis as he grudgingly uncovers the truth by negotiating with the town's murkiest characters and quirkiest residents?

In this atmospheric thriller, the narrative never falters in its forward momentum or tries too hard to drive home a particular point. It is well thought out and put together; the story and setting completely drew me into the experience. Highly recommended.
