Out of Ukraine

Out of UkraineOut of Ukraine by Emily Gallo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Gripping Tale of Parental Devotion in Crisis...

Emily Gallo's gripping and pertinent story "Out of Ukraine" skillfully combines personal strife with global unrest. The story revolves around California couple Eric and Abby as they negotiate the dangerous terrain of Ukraine in search of their surrogate-born daughter, Jillian. Their journey takes place amid Russia's invasion and the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, adding yet another level of difficulty and risk to their already difficult path.

Gallo's moving and inspirational tale shows the couple's determination and resilience against apparently insurmountable obstacles. The author places the inner family drama against the larger geopolitical scene to give readers a very human perspective on a world conflict. The engaging story "Out of Ukraine" both clarifies and fascinates the complexity of war, surrogacy, and the lifelong bonds of family. Highly recommended. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
